Long-time Spine Surgeon, Dr. Paul Canale, to retire after 19 years of orthopaedic practice with Baldwin Bone & Joint
Daphne, Ala. (March 16, 2023) – After 19 years with the Daphne-based orthopaedic practice, Baldwin Bone & Joint announces the retirement of Dr. Paul Canale. Dr. Canale completed two fellowships, one in foot & ankle and the other specializing in complex spine surgery. With more than 20 years of successfully treating neck and spine conditions, Canale also served as Founder and Medical Director of The Spine Institute at Baldwin Bone & Joint.
“In the practice of complex spine surgery, we so often see patients struggling with debilitating pain, resulting in depression and difficulty working to provide for their family. My goal was to relieve that pain and bring comfort and well-being to those in need. I am deeply gratified to have worked in partnership with my patients to see them transition from a condition of misery to seeing a relaxed, charming individual’s true personality,” Canale said.
As Canale was completing his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago he transferred to The Chicago Medical School, earning his medical degree in 1985. He completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich., in 1990, his Foot/Ankle/Lower Extremity Reconstruction Fellowship at The Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee in 1991, and his Complex Spine Disorder/Surgery Fellowship at the University of Missouri’s Columbia Spine Center in 2004. He is a member of the Alabama Orthopaedic Society (AOS), Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS), American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), North American Spine Society (NASS), Baldwin County Medical Society, and the Medical Association of Alabama.
“It is my hope that my practice here in Baldwin County has improved the lives of many. My practice philosophy was to treat each patient as I would treat my family. I hope that all my patients felt that they were treated with the utmost care and respect. Thank you for a fulfilling and memorable 19 years,” states Canale.
