21st Annual Many More Miles Shoe Drive – Baldwin Bone & Joint Partners With City Hope Church, Baldwin County Public Schools, St. Michael Catholic High School & Bayshore Christian School

DAPHNE, Ala. (February 5, 2025) – The 21st Annual Many More Miles Campaign, organized by Baldwin Bone & Joint, P.C., is currently underway. Launched on January 8th, 2025, this community outreach initiative will continue to collect gently used footwear for local individuals and families in need through March 12.

In partnership with the ongoing community shoe drive, City Hope Church will host “Deliver Hope” on Sunday, March 9, where congregants are encouraged to donate their gently worn shoes to any of the church’s campuses across the Gulf Coast to further support the Many More Miles campaign.

Dr. Keith Spain, fellowship-trained non-surgical sports medicine specialist with Baldwin Bone & Joint suggests that local runners check the mileage on their running shoes. “Depending on your size and running style, you’ll typically get around 400 miles out of a pair. When you are done with your shoes, consider donating them to our Many More Miles campaign. We’ll ensure your shoes find a good home and provide support to those who need them,” states Spain. He also serves once again as Medical Director for the Azalea Trail Run.

Additional tips for runners from Spain include the following:

▪ Alternate running days with cross-training days.
▪ Strength training with weights can often be of benefit to athletes of all ages and abilities.
▪ Proper hydration can make both your exercise sessions and the recovery feel easier.
▪ Wearing your running shoes only for running and allowing them to properly dry out after use can greatly prolong the usable life of your running shoes.

Baldwin Bone & Joint’s offices in Daphne, Spanish Fort, and Foley will serve as primary drop-off locations. Additional drop-off sites include White-Spunner Realty, McCoys Outdoors, and USA Recreation Center. Shoes donated at these sites will benefit a wide range of local organizations, including Empowering People, McKemie Place, Waterfront Rescue Mission, the Salvation Army, Baldwin County Foster Parents Association, Fostering Together Gulf Coast, Baldwin Family Village, City Hope Homeless Ministry, The Dream Center, and local homeless communities. Donated shoes will also be distributed to school clothing closets across Baldwin County to assist students in need.
