Mobile Bay Magazine (June 2026) Dr. Allison Hunter is a board certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at Baldwin Bone & Joint, specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. She holds a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in hand surgery and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Hunter joined Baldwin Bone & Joint in 2021, as both the practice’s first female surgeon and its first dedicated hand surgeon. Notably, she practices as the only female orthopedic surgeon in Baldwin County.
A Kentucky native, Dr. Hunter earned her medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine with a Distinction in Research. She was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She completed her orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where she served as Chief Resident. She then completed advanced fellowship training in hand, upper extremity, and microsurgery at the Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center at Thomas Jefferson University.

Dr. Hunter is passionate about mentorship and advancing diversity in orthopedics. She founded a Women in Orthopedics group during residency and continued to mentor trainees at UAB and the University of South Alabama. As a wife, mother of three and a full-time physician, Dr. Hunter juggles many roles yet remains deeply committed to her community through multiple volunteer and professional organizations. Since her arrival, the practice has significantly expanded specialized hand care with the support of two specialized hand therapists and a dedicated physician assistant, serving multiple locations across Baldwin County.
