Baldwin Bone & Joint Partners With Local Schools and CityHope Church for a Successful 18th Annual Many More Miles Campaign
2022 Many More Miles Campaign Concludes with Shoe Distribution Event to Give Back to Families in Need & Homeless
Daphne, AL (April 15, 2022) – Hundreds of people in Baldwin and Mobile Counties recently donated gently used shoes to Baldwin Bone & Joint’s 18th Annual Many More Miles Campaign, resulting in 1,013 pairs of shoes finding new life.
Baldwin Bone & Joint, P.C., Dr. Glenn Glass, the University of South Alabama Student Recreation Center, McCoy Outdoors, and Baldwin County schools partnered to collect shoes for families in need and area homeless populations. The campaign, now in its 18th year, got off to a running start in February, and concluded with the first Many More Miles shoe distribution event at CityHope Church-Malbis on Saturday, March 26th.
Baldwin County students were challenged to collect shoes for area families in need while earning money for their schools’ P.E. programs. Each year, Baldwin Bone & Joint awards cash prizes to the top three participating schools who donate the most shoes. Fairhope East Elementary won the first place cash prize of $500 for collecting 272 pairs of shoes. J Larry Newton Elementary took second place ($300), and Spanish Fort Elementary, third place ($200). W J Carroll Intermediate also participated in this year’s campaign.
Over the years, shoes donated by the local schools have provided a large collective donation to this important campaign. The response from the community and staff and patients of Baldwin Bone & Joint also made a significant contribution to this year’s campaign.
In addition to the distribution event, CityHope Church Outreach Coordinator Genna VanVarden and her team continue to use these donated shoes to help other local programs. “CityHope was honored to partner with Baldwin Bone & Joint in the distribution of shoes for their Many More Miles Campaign. We were able to serve families right here in Baldwin County that are in need the most during our event. In addition, the shoes that were collected have been provided to many local non-profit organizations that are serving our community, as well, including Fostering Together Gulf Coast, Waterfront Rescue Mission and Soles for Souls and the homeless community in Mobile. Thank you to all the local schools that participated and a special thank you to Baldwin Bone & Joint for collecting over a thousand pairs of shoes! We have an amazing community and meeting a simple need such as shoes, makes a huge impact, states VanVarden.
