Hicks received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Georgia and earned a Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed orthopaedic surgery residency training at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) and a Complex and Minimally Invasive Spine Fellowship at Swedish Hospital in Seattle. Additionally, he is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, AO Spine, and the North American Spine Society.
